The Power of Apprenticeships: Liz’s Journey to Restaurant Manager

Liz Murphy is a shining star in the hospitality industry. With her Scottish Modern Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management Skills under her belt, she has transformed from a talented individual to a confident and skilled leader.

Liz’s journey began when she sought personal and professional growth through a Modern Apprenticeship with Inspiro Learning. With the support of her Inspiro Trainer, managers and colleagues at Gather and Gather part of CH&Co Group, Liz was empowered to focus on her development and make meaningful contributions to her workplace. Liz works at the on-site restaurant at Sky’s contact centre in Livingston, Scotland.

Liz’s apprenticeship was a game-changer. It broadened her knowledge, boosted her confidence, and equipped her with new skills that have had a lasting impact on both herself and her workplace. With her newfound confidence, she has become an invaluable asset to her team, providing better support to her managers and applying her skills to excel in her role.

Throughout the apprenticeship, Liz discovered the joy of continuous learning. She particularly valued the modules on well-being, which not only deepened her understanding but also allowed her to share her learnings with her team. As a result of her enhanced confidence and skills, Liz was promoted to Restaurant Manager and is now pursuing finance training with her assistant General Manager, Chris.

Liz is now eager to continue learning and is open to exploring new opportunities that come her way. Her positive experience with Inspiro Learning has instilled in her the belief that continuous learning is key to personal and professional growth. With her newfound confidence and self-belief, she is poised to take on new challenges and opportunities for advancement.

Liz wholeheartedly recommends the Inspiro Learning apprenticeship programme, saying “The course work is tailored to you as an individual, my Inspiro trainer was a great source of support throughout and helped me pick the modules from each section. The meetings with my trainer were again suited to my workload. I enjoyed the mixture of teams calls and the face to face, (my favourite) which had no impact on my working day.  Full support was given by my managers and my trainer who I was able to contact anytime with any queries which was great”.

Her manager, Paul Welsh, Catering General Manager, commends Liz’s achievement, highlighting the positive impact of the apprenticeship on her confidence, skills, and role as a Restaurant Manager. He said “The course content has brought out a lot of confidence in Liz, and particularly her self-belief in her new position as Restaurant Manager. The experience Liz has developed over her recent years in the senior management team meant that she was comfortable in all areas of the course and we as a management team now benefit from her added knowledge and confidence.”

Liz’s story serves as a testament to the power of apprenticeships in fostering personal and professional growth. Her success has demonstrated the tangible benefits of supporting employees in their ongoing development and skills enhancement. Paul encourages other employers to consider similar apprenticeship opportunities to empower their staff and unlock their full potential.
